Vitiligo
- Color loss (decrease in melanin) is observed in the skin when melanocyte cells, which give color to the skin, lose their function as a result of various pathophysiological reactions.
- It has taken its place in the literature as an immune-mediated skin disease. It occurs and spreads when our immunity is suppressed. Spread can be unidirectional or symmetrical.
- Vitiligo can occur all over the body, usually in the genital area, hands, feet and eyelids. Itchy conditions increase the spread.
- It is not contagious.
- As a result of epidemiological studies based on the world population, the prevalence rate is known to be 1-2%.
Possible theories on melanin production
- Genetic predisposition
- chronic stress
- Alexithymia (inability to identify emotions, inability of the individual to explain himself)
- Hashimoto (decreased thyroid gland secretion)
- Our body defense mechanism can attack and destroy its own cells and melanocytes.
- Cells that produce toxic products during pigment production can destroy melanocytes.
- Damage to the nervous system can cause damage to the mechanism of melanocyte production. (anxiety, depression and other psychiatric disorders)

Support Information
Foods and supplements containing B12 and iron are important for us.
Black cumin seed: Proven to strengthen the immune system, black cumin plant is recommended as an auxiliary care in immune-mediated diseases such as vitiligo, cancer and AIDS.
Carrot juice: Vegetable consumption is especially important for vitiligo patients. Carrots, which contain vitamin A against mouth and lung cancer, also contain mechanisms that have great benefits for melanocyte production.
